Duo Cell’Arpa Recital – From Renaissance to Contemporary Music

Duo Cell’Arpa invites you to the recital “From Renaissance to Contemporary Music” which will be held during the “Musica Barcensis” Festival ed. 13th July – August 2022, organized by the Forum ARTE Foundation.

Mladen Spasinovici, principal cello and Roxana Moișanu, principal harp of the Bucharest National Opera orchestra, will perform a program of various composers from the Renaissance period to the music of our days.

The recital contains arrangements and premiere works made by members of the Cell’Arpa duo.

The musical journey begins with three “Cantigas de Santa Maria”.  Of these, no. 100 and no. 282 were enhanced with original musical ideas by Roxana Moișanu, based on archaic sonorities and exploring the technical possibilities of the harp.

Due to the Cell’Arpa duo’s constant interest in enriching the repertoire for chamber music, Mladen Spasinovici reimagined for cello and harp two musical works of the baroque composer Ioan Căianu, respectively “Ballet Air” and “Ballet de Bÿgot”.

In the same sphere of old music, he augmented through a series of variations, the work “Il Bianco Fiore” by Cesare Negri.

“The Nightingale” by Deborah Henson-Conant has a special place in the repertoire of the Cell’Arpa duo, this piece being lovingly and constantly performed by the duo since 2011, the debut year of this chamber ensemble.

Film music could not be missing from this recital performed on electric instruments, so you will be able to hear famous songs such as Gabriel’s Oboe (E. Moriccone), “Over the Rainbow” (Harold Arlen) and “Beauty and the Beast” (Alan Menken).

“Velvet Rose” and “The Mystical Lotus” composed by Roxana Moișanu for solo harp, were arranged for cello and harp especially for this festival, being in absolute first audition.

The recital will end with two musical pieces by Jakez François, none other than the president of the Camac Harps company from France. Originally written for solo harp, these pieces have been carefully arranged for cello and harp by the Cell’Arpa duo.

It is a pleasure to introduce these pieces in the recital, thus ending our journey over so many centuries of music.

What do a 13th century musical work and a ragtime have in common? Both can be played on electric instruments! 🎶

The recital will be performed on two of the best models of electric instruments in the world, namely the Yamaha SVC 110 electric cello and the customized Camac DHC32 electric harp.
